Carefully: A safe way to get something out of your eye on your own is to gently wash out the eye with sterile saline which is meant for the eye (not a nasal solution). Tilt your head so that the 'bad' eye is higher and send the saline from the outer corner of the eye toward the inner corner, nearer the nose. You may need help keeping the eyelid open. Get help soon if the irritation continues.
