A member asked:

Can scaling of the scalp lead to permanent hair loss?

5 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Yes, but rarely.: Scaling of the scalp could have many possible causes, including tinea capitis (ringworm). If tinea is not treated, it can cause scarring and possibly hair loss. Scaling should be examined by your pediatrician to determine the cause and treatment.

Not likely.: Usually the rash of "cradle cap" as it is commonly called can lead to some hair loss. This is temporary, however, and should not cause any great alarm.
