Vomiting randomly: without appearing ill, suggests either a very sensitive gag reflex or reflux. If he was a bad spitter as an infant, then reflux or esophageal hernia is most common. If he has allergies, then eosinophilic esophagitis is possible. Depending on the frequency, it is wise to discuss this with his doctor. A swallowing x-ray or endoscopy may be in order.
