What is the definition or description of: separation anxiety?

Separation anxiety: This is described as when an infant or small child has difficulty separating from their parent. They might exhibit this by crying uncontrollably, tantrums, etc until being picked up. Just reassurance is all the infant/child needs to know parent is present and loving.
