Injury prone: Describing a joint as brittle implies that it is predisposed to injury, which is to say that when a force is transmitted across a brittle joint it is more likely to be injured than a normal joint. Lack of sufficient range of motion, weakness, instability, and deformity can all predispose a joint to injury.
