Cardiomyopathy: Dilated means that the heart is enlarged, & cardiomyopathy means sick heart muscle. There are many reasons for the heart muscle to get weak/dilated including genetic disorders, certain inflammatory conditions, & toxins including alcohol. Many cases are idiopathic, meaning the cause is unknown. Reversal of cardiomyopathy is sometimes possible with treatment, & new treatments are being developed.
