Albinism: Albinism is a defect of melanin production. Melanin is the substance that gives color to hair, skin, and eye. Without melanin, skin and hair appear very pale, and eyes may appear red or purple. Albinism may be complete or partial. It is genetic, people are born with it. Albinism may be associated with a number of vision problems, including blindness. Albinism occurs in all races of people.
