May be normal: The heart beat may become visible in very thin individuals, especially lying down. It's also visible when the heart is working harder: after exercise is a normal time to notice it. When the heart is working harder, palpitations are also normal. Other causes: anxiety, fever, anemia, overactive thyroid, stimulants, beri-beri, aortic and mitral regurgitation and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
