What effects does anaesthesia have on respiration/ventilation for the post-operative patient?

General: anesthesia suspends respiration but ventilation is supplied by a machine controlled by the anesthesiologist! After surgery normal ventilation AND respiration is necessary PRIOR to the removal of that machine! Hope this helps! Dr Z
