Hi, that’s a great question. For the most part I see conventional medicine and Chiropractic care as complementary. In my practice I work very closely with many excellent DCs and their patients almost always love the care they receive from the doctors of Chiropractic with whom I work. IMO there should be less animosity and more collaboration between the MD/DO and DC doctors.

Consistent standards for chiropractors have only lately arrived, and still a varied field. A California study revealed over 1,000 cases of stroke and/or spinal cord damage from neck adjustments. Some older chiropractors still treat asthma and infections with adjustments. Chiropractors are now part of Kaiser health plans, and even have affiliated in Orthopedic medical school departments. When I had a practice in Federal Way, Washington I work very closely with chiropractors and that assisting each other. I would get referrals of patients with chronic back conditions that I would treat biomechanically with orthotics as needed. My success rate was very high.

Chiropractics: I have seen a number of MD's express concern about chiropractics due to injuries that may be caused - especially by high velocity manipulations. On the other hand, I have also seen MD's that have great working relationships with chiropractics and osteopaths who do manipulations.
