Need more info: The dark brown discharge sounds more like spotting of old blood, which can happen at times with hormonal fluctuation, and then it may stop completely or progress to a normal period. On the other hand, if there is a lot of itching, bad, fishy odor, unusual cramping or you are sexually active, it is good to get it checked out, especially if you are not using condoms for protection.
