Very safe, see below: Vitamin D(vtD) deficiency is very common in pregnancy, even in women taking prenatal vitamins. Studies have shown 4,000 units daily or 50,000 units weekly to be very safe for the fetus. Adequate vtD is needed for proper skeletal development. **Low prenatal and perinatal vtD may increase the risk in later life of multiple sclerosis, cancer, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and schizophrenia.
