I am 3 months post inguinal hernia surgery and just had an ultrasound and they found a femoral hernia now. is that normal? how can that happen?

Same side?: Is this femoral hernia on the same side as your hernia surgery? Ultrasound can be difficult to interpret on post-operative patients. Do not know if they were seeing scar tussue or swelling. Also a specific diagnosis of a femoral hernia on an ultrasound would be difficult to make. See your surgeon for an exam first.

Can happen: This can happen after open inguinal hernia repair, because the femoral space is not in the operative field. Having said that, it is very uncommon. It does not happen after laparoscopic repair because the operative field includes the femoral space. See your surgeon for an exam and review of the ultrasound first.
