Possible infection: Many possible causes of thick discharge--from a yeast infection to stds to bacterial infections. You can't tell (and the dr can't tell) just by looking. Tests for stds if you've been sexually active or looking under the microscope can tell the cause of discharge and the best treatment. See your dr to tell them about your symptoms.
