No: This isn't a heart attack or stroke or intestinal bleeding or appendicitis. Please do not misuse the resources of an emergency room for something that is not an emergency. Call or see your doctor. If you can't get in, there must be at least one or two walk-in clinics near you where you can go for your problem. If it's more than they can handle, THEY'LL send you to the ER.

Not ER: Go to your primary care doctor (PCP). If he or she is not available, you could go to urgent care but this is not really "urgent," just painful and not resolving. Stop icing the area. Try heat. If you received the medications from your PCP, then call and say that you're not improving. X-rays are rarely helpful in diagnosing most types of back pain. Other things that help are P.T. and chiropractic.
