A member asked:

Is coconut oil safe to apply to the skin as a moisturizer for those suffering from high cholesterol? does it enter the blood stream through the skin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Safe and yes: Any oil applied to skin will make it into the blood stream to some extent. However, the amount getting into your system this way is not likely to alter your fat metabolism materially. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
