Spotting common: Spotting in early pregnancy is common. The cervix can be very sensitive and an exam in the office or sex may cause a little brown discharge, which is old blood. But any bleeding in pregnancy is a reasonable cause for concern. Call your doctor and see if they want to move up your first prenatal visit.
