Varicella Zoster Dx: 31 year old gentleman with a question about varicella zoster diagnosis. Physicians diagnose shingles because it follows a dermatomal distribution. While it is possible for herpes to infect the body (even the entire face and head can be affected by a condition called herpes gladiatorum) those cases are usually caused by patients taking topical steroid formulations. Please get a full exam with MD.
