Menstrual symptoms: I wonder if the metallic taste and gassy feeling are really the symptoms of your menstrual cycle, rather than the tampon? Certainly, both symptoms could be related to your period. You could try using pads instead and see if you have the same symptoms. Anyway, there is nothing worrisome about what you describe. It's just the uniqueness of your body.
