The neck is angry @: -the insult both from before the surg from pain & now insulted again by the surg. Its response from these,more so the fusion is also pain & the neck tries 2 stabilize itself by muscle tightening or spasms. The trapezius is a large posterior stabilizer that has large attachments to the scapula & hence the pain. Also pain is referred from those levels 2 that area. Google trapezius & see.
