Just noticed the bone running behind my 15 yr old sons right ear looks very swollen? it's very hard. he says he has no pain but muffled noise. causes?

Hard to tell: Swelling behind the ear with muffled hearing can be a sign of mastoiditis (an sign of a spreading severe ear infection). This is usually associated with pain. Cysts, lymph nodes and other masses can exist behind the ear. Either way, it is best for a physician to examine the swelling and to evaluate the ear as soon as possible.
