Antihistamine: Claritin (loratadine) is an antihistamine which blunts the action of histamine. Histamine is released in all parts of your body but especially under the skin. When histamine is released under your skin it can cause hives or just itching. Thus an antihistamine will block those symptoms. Your itchy skin could be due to allergies.
