Scan then biopsy: The first step to diagnosing lung cancer would be to obtain imaging such as a chest x-ray or ct scan. If the scan showed a tumor in the lungs, then a biopsy of the abnormal spot is necessary to make the diagnosis since there are lots of benign reasons to have spots in the lungs!
