Rare cause: This is quite a rare diagnosis. Your obgyn should rule out all other causes of vaginitis before lactobacillus overgrowth syndrome or Doderlein's cytolysis is presumed. Treatments may include Estrogen therapy in postmenopausal women. Other treatments to alter the vaginal flora may be tried. Nuvaring may be useful in premenopausal women.
