No difference : When we think of Herpes and the eye, HSV1 and 2 are lumped into the same category vs. VZV which is shingles. In regards to recurrence, if you are not immunocompromised the odds of recurrence is very small with Shingles recurring more than the herpes virus. If you are prone to recurrence, you can be started on Acylovir 400mg 1x per day for maintenance and the outbreak will be much less severe.
