Pericardial fluid: The location of the pericardial effusion isn't as important as the quantity or the rapidity with which it accumulates. Serial echocardiograms are the way to assess severity and the need to intervene with removal of the percardial fluid. As long as your heart is able to contract and expand normally the fluid is causing no harm.
