Find the cause: Normal menstrual periods last 7 days or less, and range from 21-35 days (counting from the beginning of one period to the beginning of the next). Menstrual cycles that are outside of that range may be caused by a variety of problems, from hormone imbalances to obesity, to other serious medical problems. You should chart your periods and see your doctor if cycles are irregular to find the cause.
