They are BOTH: harmful and there is NEVER a "Guarantee" that they will not be "disturbed"...BOTH should be removed !!!!!!! My opinion only! Hope it helps! Dr Z

I see no danger: Politicians were probably right to ban the old poly chlorinated biphenyls in the 1960s because their breakdown products harm the environment. These flame retardants have nothing to do with asbestos and while all studies of "chemicals in the environment" generate lots of conflicting claims, if your fire retardant was an actual danger, it would be clear by now.
