Pregnancy and STI: While your fertile period is usually closer to 14 days prior to your period, you could still risk pregnancy as well as sexually transmitted infections including HIV, gonorrhea, Chlamydia, HPV, herpes... Just to name some of them! I recommend contraception if you are not trying to conceive as well as using a condom and choosing your partners wisely. You may want to consider being tested for STIs.

Regardless of the: ...time of your cycle, there's always a risk of acquiring a STD from "unprotected" sex. Women with regular cycles usually ovulate about 14 days after the first day of the last period. The risk of pregnancy is greatest 3 days before & 1-2 days after ovulation but there is still a risk 7 days before your period. I recommend that you DON'T have unprotected sex unless you want to get pregnant.
