Diet can impact risk: Eating salt in and of itself will not "cause" a heart attack but it certainly can contribute to increasing your risk for heart disease. Dietary modifications, in general, can significantly reduce your risk of hypertension, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, all of which increase your risk for heart disease and heart attack.
