A member asked:

I found out that my friend had to have his left lung removed because of an infection that affected his whole lung. what are the chances of survival?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Body's resilience: Luckily the body is built extremely well. Plenty of people can survive with one lung only... or one kidney, and so on. Once he recovers from the surgery, his remaining lung will adapt to do more work. Doctors usually only resort to these types of treatments in extreme cases, so I hope your friend recovers soon. Don't give up hope.
