A member asked:

I have been banded several times for hemorrhoids and treated for a fissure with nifedipine. i still have pain and do not know which way to turn.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Banding: Your pain is not from your hemorrhoids. Banding in this instance is not a good idea. You likely have an anal ulcer or fissure and if you do not respond to topical nitroglycerine (Rectiv) or nifedipine then you will probably need a 5 minute procedure called sphincterotomy for permanent relief. You should also be using bulk (Konsyl, Metamucil, etc) and softerners (docusate) daily .
