No petroleum jelly: Oil based lubricants can trap bacteria against the vulva and make worse an irritated situation. The cause of the vulvar irritation is overly aggressive vulvar cleansing- so stop it!. Use an over the counter hydrocortisone cream on the area after washing very gently with Dove, Caress or Ivory soaps which are very mild and not likely to irritate the vulva.
