Benign nevus (mole): What you are describing sounds like a normal brown nevus that is very common and usually no cause for concern. The doctor most likely asked you to "watch it" to make sure it is not rapidly enlarging, for example over the course of weeks to a few months. This would be unusual and would warrant a visit to a dermatologist. If these run in your family, she may develop more over time.
