Pelvic pain: Pelvic pain is complex as there are several organs in the pelvis. The ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, bladder, appendix, intestines, colon and rectum can all be the source. Pelvic pain requires and examination to help organize the evaluation.

Multiple causes: It must be determined whether pain is in the left lower abdomen, or pelvis. A common cause in the left lower abdomen would be inflammation due to diverticulitis of the colon. Pelvic pain could be due to inflammation of the Fallopian tube and/or ovary. A visit to ones doctor could distinguish, or perhaps detect some less common cause of pain. Blood and urine tests for infection might also help.

See a doctor: If your period was late and you thought you were pregnant and then bled the chances are that you were pregnant and had a miscarriage or if athletic, thin or taking stimulants maybe it just a late period. You didn't say whether you've had a period yet this time but the combination of pain on one side and no period is potentially a true emergency and you should go to the ER to rule out ectopic preg
