A member asked:

How long does the virus live on chapstick, can i re infect myself by using my own chapstick later after i have had an earlier outbreak?

Oral herpes?: You don't say what virus is on your mind, but I'm guessing you have recurrent oral herpes (cold sores). If so, you needn't worry at all. You are resistant to new infections with the same type of herpes (probably HSV1) and certainly cannot reinfect yourself with your own virus. Feel free to re-use the same chapstick. (It has a preservative that would kill HSV, but it woudn't matter if it didnt.)
