Hot compresses: Infections of the oil glands at the root of the lashes or in the substance of the lid come from blockage. Sometimes it is possible for the heat to release the blockage or to improve the circulation enough for your body to fight effectively to heal infection. 1/4 cup uncooked rice in a cotton sock, 30 sec in microwave, 5 min 4 x a day for 2 days. Get treament on day 3 if not gone completely gone.

Local heat: For a beginning or florid stye, apply a heated wash cloth using the very warm but not hot tap water. Do this for 4 minutes at a time 4-5 times per day and this will usually clear it up. Antibiotic drops and ointments will not help.
