Hormonal imbalance: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD. Consult this site for more information on this topic. http://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/menstruation/conditioninfo/Pages/causes.aspx Practice safe sex.

A 36-year-old member asked:

Is it normal for my baby to breastfeed and not have a bowel movement for days?

Dr. Irwin Berkowitz
Specializes in Pediatrics
Yes: Usually after the first few weeks the pattern of stooling can change from after every feed to every two or three days, sometimes even longer. If the baby is urinating, gaining weight and is comfortable this is not a problem.
A 37-year-old member asked:

Does light bleeding in early pregnancy mean I am having a miscarriage?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. David Fein
Specializes in Preventive Medicine
No: There are many benign causes for spotting or bleeding early in pregnancy, and 30% of all women with normal pregnancy outcomes will actually have bleeding in the first trimester. Of course it is important to contact your physician if you are having bleeding with your pregnancy, but it does not mean the pregnancy will end in miscarriage.
A 21-year-old female asked:

I have extreme cramps and back pain the first day I get my period so bad and it last awhile and pain meds don't help could this be something serious?

Probably not: In younger women congestive dysmenorrhea can be very severe just before and the first 1-2 days of the cycle. If the symptoms are so severe consider using oral contraceptives which will relieve the symptoms. Talk to your gynecologist about it.

A 39-year-old member asked:

Does painful ovulation mean there will be a painful menstrual cycle?

1 doctor answer4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Neeoo Chin

Not necessarily: Painful ovulation can potentially be caused by a large preovulation cyst, or a small amount of blood was released during ovulation, or scar tissue being present around the ovary. Subsequent menstruation may not be painful.
