See a doctor: You need an evaluation including xrays. This may be as simple as a strain/pulled muscle or may require evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon or pain specialist if it is a more complex issue.

Are they related?: Do you have back pain that travels to the knee? Do you have separate symptoms in these two areas? If the two pains seem to always go together, then you could be having mechanical low back problems of the joints and/or muscles that refer symptoms down to the knee area. If a nerve is being pinched in the lumbar spine, then the pain can travel down the leg to the knee and sometimes past that.
