Depends: Best treatment is individualized. For women it may be certain oral contraceptive pills or spironolactone. For very severe acne or acne resistant to initial therapy, oral isotretinoin is the most effective. Plan on several months of treatment to achieve desired result. After isotretinoin there may be no maintenance. With all others there will be months to years of continued maintenance.
