A member asked:

This morning when i went to the bathroom i was in excruciating pain. first i thought i might have a uti, which i get frequently, at least twice a year. the second time i peed today, it looked like there was a fine sand resting at the bottom of the toilet.

Stones!: It sounds like you may have passed some kidney/bladder stones. If the symptoms persist, see your doc. Hopefully, your pain is over! Best of luck!

UTI? Herpes? Other?: Maybe the "sand" is pus, bacteria, etc. If your symptoms are typical for past UTIs, probably you have one again. But if at risk for STD, "excrutiating" pain on urination could be new herpes causing a sore or ulcer at the urethral opening. Assuming UTI, recurrences often can be prevented, e.g. with low dose antibiotic, especially after sex. Consider seeing an infectious disease specialist.
