Dr. Alvin Lin answered

No, do not cut/crush: Oxycontin is a slow/controlled release form of oxycodone. As such, it is not intended to be cut/crushed/chewed/altered in any way etc (http://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/archives/fdaDrugInfo.cfm?archiveid=56577): "Taking cut, broken, chewed, crushed or diss[ol]ved OxyContin® Tablets leads to rapid release and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of oxycodone."

OxyContin: I commend you for being concerned about side effects of OxyContin. OxyContin is a narcotic pain medication, with many side effects and it is habit forming. Ask yourself about severity of your pain, possible causes, stresses and what has helped with your pain. See a Physician for diagnosis, Physical Therapy, decrease of dose of OxyContin, non-narcotic medications. See a Psychiatrist for Therapy.
