A member asked:

I'm trying to conceive. what do you think about using saliva as a lubricant? it is natural, but should you have dry sex when trying?

Not germaine: Sperm on egg is what causes pregnancy. Because saliva contains many enzymes that could potentially interfere with sperm function it should theoretically not be used as a lubricant. I am not sure if this is a real concern, but if you are trying to get pregnant and not having any luck then it is best to be conservative.

Water base lubricant: Saliva will likely be fine but water-based lubes are. If trying to conceive, the goal is orgasm for the male to ejaculate (deposit sperm). The enhanced fertility theory proposes that the female orgasms to initiate the rhythmic contraction of the uterus. Whether you believe that or not, pleasure is part of the process. "dry" sex is not always pleasurable and can be traumatic. Why risk it?
