Postmenopausal: For most women, their ovaries begin to decrease their function around age 35. This results in decreasing production of estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. The lack of adequate estradiol allows a condition called atrophic vaginitis to develop. The symptoms include vaginal itching, dryness, & painful intercourse.
