Orthopod: You need to see an orthopedist who specializes in the spine. It appears that something is compressing your nerve and you need to get this examined ASAP. As for the swelling, it is unrelated but swelling itself can give you a sense of numbness . Do you have a problem with varicose veins? Have you gain a lot of weight . See you family doctor about this issue.

See your Dr: I'm not sure what your question is. The swelling of your leg may not be related to your loss of sensation. The most common cause of compression of nerves to lower extremity at your age would be a herniated or bulging disc in lumbar spine.
