A member asked:

I was getting ready to go out and my right thumb became painful. the pad of the thumb is all black and blue, a bit swollen and tingly. 10 minutes ago there was nothing wrong. do i need to see a doctor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

RightOutOfTheBlk&Blu: Yes, unless your thumb got banged by an invisible painless hammer, you should see a doctor. Of course, a lot more needs to be known about you, like any chronic illness, what medications you take, what types of activities or work you engage in, etc. But at your age a painful blue (or pale) thumb that just comes out of nowhere is concerning and you should make sure your heart and blood vessels are OK
