A member asked:

I am currently pregnant and my husband is worried about me eating (pasteurized) cheese because it contains xanthan gum. is it safe for me to eat?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Pasteurized cheese is safe to eat if stored properly. Xanthan gum is one of those food additives found in so many foods... haven't heard of it causing birth defects. As long as one is not overdoing her cheese-eating, there should be no worries. Everything in moderation, as always.
