Perimenopause: Menopause is absence of menses for one year. In the months and years prior to menopause, the menstrual pattern can change, often with longer cycles. This time is called perimenopause. Pregnancy may still be possible, so a pregnancy test should be repeated in a week or two if menses does not appear.
