A member asked:

Are most african-american babies born with pale, light-skin, like myself? does this very light skin color change and can it change to very dark skin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily. : African - American babies are not necessarily light skin at birth. They are more closer to their parental skin complexion and do not get darker as they grow. If a baby is light skinned, there might be light skinned individuals in the family, which is genetic but if the baby's mucous membranes are pale, he or she should be evaluated for anemia ( low hemoglobin ).
