Laminectomy: Laminectomy is the most common treatment for lumbar stenosis. There are some minimally invasive forms of this surgery that are also available. Cervical stenosis can be treated with laminectomy, laminectomy and fusion, laminoplasty, or anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. The operation chosen depends on what structures are causing the stenosis.

The degree of blockage is expressed in percentage so that 80% or greater is considered for intervention when unilateral or when associalted with symptoms such as tias or if the other side is blocked at even lower percentage such as 70%.

Same entity: Some use the optional discriptor "hypertrophic" as an add on to pyloric stenosis. Ps is by caused by an overgrowth and tightening of the muscles surrounding the pyloric region of the small intestine. As such the "hypertrophic" is a redundant term. Some do a similar thing by saying yellow jaundicde when jaundice would be sufficient.

Surgery: Spinal stenosis is when the spinal canal is too narrow for the nerve elements. This can be a congenital or acquired in origin. When surgery is indicated, one of the mosf common is a laminectomy which is a removal of the "roof" of the spine freeing up or decompressing the nerve tissues, a decompression.
